The Trial of the King

TheEliteExtremophile This record feels like an alternate universe where Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee were members of Yes. The overall sound palette is rich and full of retro synths, but the guitars are usually angular. The bass has a satisfying, snapping bite to it more akin to Geddy’s tone than Chris Squire’s usual overdrive.

knutepanhead This is amazing old school prog-rock. I feel the spirit of early YES all over this. That is a major compliment. I have always loved prog, and Yes' "Close To The Edge" popped my prog cherry. Chromatic Aberration have that same glorious vibe. Can't get enough of this release. This totally deserves your time and attention. Favorite track: The Trial of the King.

dotorg Awesome, kind-of earthy prog that begs for more than one listen. You and I are both fortunate listeners for having stumbled upon this album. Favorite track: Lord of the City.

Went to seek my fortune, Like legends of old Bought myself an army, With my plundered gold This will bring us peace one day, Don’t you understand Commanded armies, Make their final stand All who fear the headsman’s blade, Heed my order Call out the horse brigade, And give no quarter Stand atop the castle walls, Raining fire My stalwart banner flies, A new empire Away from here, Take me A new frontier, To make free Another town will fall today, Left in smoldering decay, How long will our freedom stand? If you are lord of all the land? All who fear the headsman’s blade, Seal the border To those who run away, I give no quarter Charge towards the foeman’s lines, Charge to glory Your sacrifice will live, In song and story Lord of the city, I rule them all End the committee, Supreme reign, of peace Words of roads to go on, Promises Cloaks and daggers, Time will tell if I will live or die The final battle has been won, But your wars are never done Loyalty is not a fact A lord must always watch his back

I can hear the bombs exploding, This war has begun Peaceful ways of life corroding, So we’re on the run From their distant lands they sow, And what will grow Is this a debt we owe? Take your things and go There on the horizon, Lies the path we seek In the never-ending darkness, No option but to sneak Who will fall along the journey, We don’t know Where to go, From here Far away, We’re nearly there, We’ll meet someday Within the light, I find myself Within the fight, you’ll bleed as well Here in the dark, You can hide you’ll be fine Out there what was yours, I will take for it’s mine I wandered clear streams of blue, And felt the wind with all beside you This is but a dream, For me As fire rains from the sky, I’ve got nothing left to go on Is this but a dream, For you I reach up and touch the sky, But it fades away, Away, away (The wheels of time are driven by pain, conflict and strife The cycle of existence, devour to survive) A wicked storm is raging, Too late for it to end Now they hide in silence, Their turn to defend Destruction we create, A guarantee That this moment will, Live in history They had us in a corner, And they know the score Reminder that they owe, A crime to answer for Maybe, maybe Things may change, But for now We’ve got them, On the run

Far above, From every yesterday Stars combine to light and guide the way High in the valley Stone paths continue beyond the rolling clouds Now reach the kingdom at trail’s end To lead To love To grow To one day rule them all Inherit the soil And follow all those who came before Now lead them, on to more A glimpse of a moment from in between time Of an empire gone, yet still lives on Surviving in those who come to return Living to see each brand new dawn Finding their way back home

about

Chromatic Aberration Cleveland, Ohio

A shared love of prog rock (especially Rush!) and Ultimate brought us together.

We played in a band for a few years (2014-2016) in California before I moved cross country for work in 2017.

Before leaving, we created some demos, but I knew we'd have to get back together someday to do them justice.

Reuniting in 2020, 'The Trial of the King' is that result.
